The first step in turning to God is being willing to agree with God concerning your personal sinful condition.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). The truth of the matter is that God will not give anyone eternal life unless each person is willing to admit his or her sinful condition to Him.
In fact, God is willing to leave any person in a state of eternal suffering unless they are willing to turn to Him on His terms. And the first step in turning to God is to acknowledge that you have sinned against His perfect standards of moral consistency and sinlessness.
The first reality you must acknowledge is this: you have sinned against God and deserve eternal suffering because of that sin.
The second reality we must acknowledge concerns Jesus.
