I Peter 3:12, "For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil."
By the time this Staff Devotional reaches your inbox, our nation will have survived another Election Day on November 3rd. No matter the outcome concerning the presidency, the state and local offices, or even the recent confirmation of a conservative-leaning United States Supreme Court Justice, God's people must remember that the battles we face can only be won on our knees. Personally, this past week I have been dismayed to read articles by "leading evangelicals" that seek to influence Christians not to vote, that equate pride with the murder of innocent life, and that cloak the author's arrogance in phony, doctrinal diatribe. What we need in our land is a good dose of Bible-believing people on their faces before God. We need repentance. We need contrition. We need confession. We need intercession!
The God of all grace will hear us if we will seek Him in humility. Our Scripture reference declares, "... his ears are open unto their prayers: ..." This wording is a lovely anthropomorphism - an attribution of physical, man-like characteristics to God. Think about it: When we pray - when small, finite man prays to God, the Creator of all things, the most High and Holy of all - He bends an ear to hear us! You and I must pray. The earnest hour is here. Jesus is coming soon; it may be tomorrow, it may be today. Souls hang in the balance of eternity while God awaits our move to glorify Him by obeying His call.
On Thursday, our church will host hundreds of other believers online during a weekend in what is known as the Loving and Leading Conference. I trust that you will join me and pray in a spirit of intercession for all who are involved. Many delegates will participate seeking guidance in reaching the next generation; others will join in as a last-ditch effort to stay faithful to the Lord's calling upon them in ministry. Will you and I be ready? Will you and I be a channel of grace, and the power of the Holy Spirit, during this vital meeting? The windows of heaven are open, for the Lord will hear us when we pray!
