Missions Conference at First Baptist Church begins in just a few days. Have you prepared, and are preparing, your heart and life for what God may want from you?
My devotional today comes from Hebrews, chapter 11 - the great Hall of Faith chapter. We know the necessity of faith - faith saves! "For by grace are ye saved through faith; ..." (Ephesians 2:8).
The Word of God tells us four times specifically that the just shall live by faith (Habakkuk 2:4, Romans 1:17, Galatians 3:11, and Hebrews 10:38), so faith is necessary for our everyday living. When we read the Bible, it is an account of God working in the lives of people, just like you and me, in this area of faith. Faith to give, faith to go, faith to serve, faith to obey, faith to leave, faith to believe, and on and on. Faith is a foundational character in our Christian life. In Hebrews 11, I want to draw your attention to two people in the Bible in this area of faith.
1. Verse 5 tells us that Enoch did not see death because of his testimony of faith. He walked with God " ... and was not found, because God had translated him: ..." Ephesians 4:1-3 speaks of the necessity of the right walk. Ephesians 5 speaks of our walk in terms of love, children of light, and circumspectly. God is interested in, and sees our walk with Him as essential to, our Christian life. It is a walk by faith. I cannot see Him; I have His Word and I follow by faith what His Word says I am to do.
2. Verse 31 tells us about Rahab the harlot! Faith ... and ... harlot? Yes, faith took her from what she was to who she became. Faith took us from what we were, and would have become, to what and who we are in Christ! A joint heir, a child of the King, saved, born again, with a home in heaven! How? Why? FAITH.
We are saved by faith and are to walk by faith. Would you consciously do something today with God by faith? Express your faith, increase your faith, and act by faith. What does that look like? Read Verse 1 of the 11th chapter of Hebrews. God tells us exactly what it looks like.
Have a great day in Him! Walk by faith and express your faith.
